About

The Pattern Journal

Essays on numbers, shapes, and the patterns hiding in both. From the team behind the Math & Patterns learning app.

What we publish

One careful essay each Tuesday. Numbers, shapes, proofs, history, patterns — written for the curious, not the credentialed. Most posts take 5–12 minutes. Every post opens with a 30-second answer that stands on its own, so you can leave smarter without finishing.

How we write

Each piece has one writer and one reviewer, both named on the page. We update the date when corrections land. Sources sit at the bottom. We try to be precise about what's true (most of math) and what's retrofitted folk legend (most of "the golden ratio in Renaissance art").

How this connects to the app

The journal is the writing — the why behind the patterns the app's puzzles use. Most essays end with a one-tap link to the matching level. Open the app if you'd rather learn by doing.

Use in classrooms

Every essay is CC-BY-NC. Copy, print, and share for non-commercial classroom use without asking. For anything commercial, write to hello@mathandpatterns.com.
